Whilst all of this can be good in moderation, it’s easy to lose sight of the simple things that made you and your business tick in the first place.

If you have started an online business, then you may have a variety of reasons for doing so – to support your family, to be your own boss, to have more say over your freedom, to escape the 9-5, to have more quality time with your children or to make your millions. Whatever the reason you had to start your business, it would likely have involved an element of passion.

What did you enjoy about your fledgling business when you started out? Sourcing new products, designing new things, chatting with clients, creating new services, interacting with people or learning new skills?

Passion is something that lies at the core of all successful businesses as the entrepreneurial spirit behind it will inevitably love what he or she does. Losing sight of your original goals and the reasons why you started your biz can have a really negative impact on your long term success, if you are no longer engaging in the tasks that you actually enjoy.

So next time when you are planning your day, with a regime of what you have been advised to do – make sure you take a little time to rediscover the passion you had in the first place. Spending time on this will reap rewards for you and it will suddenly all become easier and more pleasurable again.

I’m sure most of us ‘Internet Marketers’ have experienced it in some way or another. It’s why we feel such a bond with our online peers, and why we often spend too much time on Social Networks. These people online ‘get you’, they understand the language you speak, the hopes, fears and aspirations you have and they don’t collapse into fits of laughter when you mention that you sent out a ‘Tweet’. (sigh).

I actually find it quite amusing that I mentioned Twitter over a year and a half ago (how time flies) and I got that look – the picture illustrates it well – and yet now, as Twitter becomes more mainstream with celebs jumping on the bandwagon, everyone suddenly seems to be a Twitter expert. Of course the same divide still exists on Twitter, just because some of your ‘real world’ friends jumped on Twitter, it doesn’t mean they’ll understand more than 50% of your tweets, infact I prefer it when my friends don’t follow me on Twitter as it takes too long to explain what a PDF report is or why I would recommend someone reads a list of SEO tips, sheesh that’s a minefield – SEO to a non Internet person!
