I Went to Bed With Gary Vaynerchuk Last Night…
And so Far – I’d Give Him 10/10
As I’m sure you have already realized, I’m not referring to THE Gary Vaynerchuk, more of a by-product of the man himselfÂ
To be precise, I am actually listening to the iTunes audio book of Crush It, the New York Times bestseller from Gary Vaynerchuk.
I don’t normally go in for audio books, I prefer to have the actual hard copy of the book, but recently I’ve tried a couple and up until this point, it wasn’t going all that well.
I started off by listening to the acclaimed 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, and whilst I know that it is full of excellent information – I am finding the audio version a bit of a sleep aid and have often dozed off whilst listening. At least with the book version, I could read it in my ‘own voice’ and then easily find my place again – not so simple when you’ve dozed off listening to it on your iPhone!
However, I decided to give it another go with Crush It from @garyvee because unlike many audio books, it is actually read by the author himself and in the past I’ve found him really interesting to watch. Plus, since getting my iPhone – I’ve become a little addicted to podcasts and spend far too much time browsing through the iTunes library! It was only a matter of time before I progressed up to a full blown audio book.
If you have never watched any of Garys stuff, then you won’t be aware of the enthusiasm and passion that comes across. I have popped a couple of videos below for you to check out, so that you can experience his style for yourself. These were taken from the Crush It book signing tour.
Gary is another example of someone who knew what he wanted from life, he came from humble beginnings to take life by the balls and follow his dream. It seems that failure was never an option for Gary and I don’t think that is even a word that exists within his vocabualry.
He prioritizes his life with three simple rules and family is by far the top one of those. He attributes much of his success to his parents and that success includes turning his fathers business into a 20 million dollar business within the space of a few years.
Gary invokes the power of social media to reach out to his target audience and he is very specific about the ‘hows’ of doing this. One of the main focus points of using social media in such a way as Gary has, is to make sure that you are never selling to your customer – Gary says, quite intently, that using social media is purely for you to build your brand and that brand is you.
I am only at the tip of the iceberg with this book but it’s been a while since I have found something quite as inspiring as this. The main reason that I like this guy is because he is real and he doesn’t talk crap. He talks from his own experience and tells you to get up off of your ass and work hard. He doesn’t sugar-coat it – he says that you can be full-time workers and you still have plenty of hours between 9pm and 3am to build a business – I love that. Anyone who whines that they are too tired or throws out any other excuse as to why they can’t do this – just doesn’t want it enough!
Will it make a difference to my life? Will I become a success story within my own niche? Well, only time will tell. I certainly have the passion and drive and maybe, with the wise words of someone who is living proof that it can be done, I will be able to reach out and help as many women as I possibly can to get online, start earning or improving their businesses.
I will write another post with my final thoughts once I have finished listening to the audio, but I wanted to share this with you now as I really am finding it incredibly inspiring. If you want to listen to a snippet and try out the audio version then head on over to the iTunes Audio Book library – but I warn you – it’s addictive!!
I’ll leave you with some words from the man himself…..
